| The Captain Benny's chain was founded in 1969. The company claims that they were established in 1967. However, the first location shown below opened in 1969. I believe the original name was Captain Benny's Half Shell Oyster Bar. There are now six locations in the Houston area and one in Austin. The buildings are meant to resemble oyster boats. |

El Barquito in Houston was part of the Playa Azul Seafood & Oyster Bar restaurant when this photo was taken in 2011. This boat was built around 2008 when it housed the Pirate's Seafood Boat. It later housed the Merengue restaurant. It now houses the Barco Latino. [map]
The El Barquito Oyster Bar in Roma was built in 2015. I don't believe it is related to the El Barquito in Houston. [map] |
