Jantzen Beach SuperCenter Carousel
Portland, OR
The Jantzen Beach SuperCenter Carousel was built by C.W. Parker in 1921. This large carousel has 72 jumping horses and two chariots. It was installed in Venice, CA from 1921-1924 and then Long Beach, CA from 1924-1927. In 1928, it was shipped to the Jantzen Beach Amusement Park in Portland, OR. That park was razed in 1970 to build this shopping center. The carousel was refurbished and installed inside the shopping center in 1972. In 1995, the carousel was completely restored. In 2012, the mall announced that it was undergoing redevelopment and that the carousel would be removed and put in storage. Its fate is unknown at this point. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
