Dentzel Carousel figures Shelburne, VT | |||
This Herschell carousel is from around 1920 and has been here at the Shelburne Museum since 1984. Its origins are unknown but before coming here, it was in storage in MN. There are 20 jumpers and 2 chariots and, unlike most museum pieces, this carousel can be ridden.
Inside the Museum's Circus Building are figures from a 3-row Dentzel carousel that was built around 1902. The carousel had been at the Sacandaga Amusement Park in Northville, NY. There are panels, 2 chariots, and 40 animals (29 horses, 3 giraffes, 3 goats, 3 deer, 1 lion and 1 tiger) -- all in original paint! The bird figures are unidentified but I'm assuming they are from another Dentzel carousel. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |
