Angelo's Steak Pit Panama City Beach, FL |
||
Angelo's Steak Pit features a bull that goes by the name of "Big Gus". Angelo's opened in 1958 and this statue has been there since 1970. He was designed to be a Spanish bull but was supposedly transformed into a Longhorn. That seems unlikely since there is an identical statue in Waukon, IA. This statue was probably built by Sculptured Advertising of Sparta, WI. The owner of Angelo's was going to put other bull statues at two other locations. However, those restaurants were never built and the two bulls remain in storage. In 2018, the bull was knocked over and damaged during Hurricane Michael. The statue was restored and reinstalled in 2019. These photos were taken a few months later. For more, see this website. [map] |

This Longhorn Bull statue is located in front of Raul's Corral Mexican Food & Longhorn Ballroom. The place opened in 1950 as Bob Wills' Ranch House. By 1958, it was known as the Longhorn Ranch. In 1967, the name was changed to the Longhorn Ballroom. The sign and Bull are probably from then. The Longhorn Bull's "RR" brand in the 2011 photos referred to the restaurant's owner, Raul Ramirez who operated the place from 1996-2017. In 2017, the new owner renovated the place. The Bull was repainted and the sign was reinstalled. The sign had been in storage since the 1990s when it was knocked over during a storm. In 2021, the place appeared to be closed. The sign's readerboard was missing. In 2023, the business was reopening as the Longhorn Ballroom. For more, see this website. [map] |
