Shakespeare Company Kalamazoo, MI |

The Shakespeare Company building was constructed in 1940. The Shakespeare Company produces fishing equipment. The company moved to Columbia, SC in 1970. This building has housed Shakespeare's Pub since 2003. The canopy over the entrance was added sometime after 2007. For more, see this website. [map] |
City Hall Kalamazoo, MI |
Kalamazoo's City Hall was designed by Weary & Alford and built in 1931. The limestone facade features relief panels of historic local events. For more, see this website. [map] |
Paris Cleaners Kalamazoo, MI |

Paris Cleaners was established in 1903 as the Metropolitan Dry Cleaners and Steam Garment Dying Works. In 1939, the name was changed to Paris Cleaners and Dyers. In 1956, the business moved to this location. The design was modeled after drive-through cleaners in California. The neon and bulb sign was restored in 2011 by Modern Neon Signs of Kalamazoo. The sign had been dark since around 1986. The neon sign was removed and destroyed in 2024 during roof repair. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3. [map] |

This storefront in Lansing also appears to be from the 1930s. This photo is from 2011. In 2015, the building was housing Vintage Junkies. By 2017, it was housing Jo's Unique Boutique. Does anyone know the original occupant of this building? [map]
The Knapp Building was designed by Orlie Munson as the J.W. Knapp Department Store. It was built from 1937-1939. The store closed in 1980. At some point, the building became Knapp's Office Centre. These photos are from 2011. In 2012, renovation work began on the building. In 2014, the building reopened as Knapp's Centre. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
