The Beef-a-Roo chain seems to have been very small and confined to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There was a location in Iron River, MI but that location closed in 2021 and the sign is gone now. I believe these restaurants were built in the 1970s. There must have been some connection with the Rockford, IL based chain which was established in 1967 and still uses the same name. That company used the same cowboy character on their signs and advertising in the 1970s. They have changed their logo since then.

By 2015, the Negaunee location had changed their sign to a simpler plastic box sign. It closed in 2021. [map]

The Marquette location still had the original sign in 2018. It closed in 2019 and the sign was gone. The building is still there.

Kalamazoo, MI
The Chicken Coop chain was established in 1966. The company expanded to more than 50 locations in Southwest Michigan and Indiana. The original locations used the A-frame design. The signs were built in the same shape. There were at least two other former Chicken Coop A-frame buildings including these in Elkhart, IN (gone) and Kalamazoo, MI (still there). By 2018, the St. Joseph building had a new roof without shingles. It was painted red. The shingles were also gone from the front of the building and it was painted white. The sign on the front is gone now but the weathervane remains. [map]

The Grand Rapids location had closed by 2018. The pole sign's lower panels were gone and the letters on the building had been removed. By 2019, the location had reopened as Cindy's Chicken Coop. [map]

The Plainwell building and sign were gone by 2022.

There are two other surviving locations in Paw Paw, MI and Portage, MI.
