This former Sambo's housed the Acapulco Mexican Restaurant when this photo was taken in 2005. After that, the restaurant housed the Presidential Diner and Que Rico. The building had been vacant since at least 2016. It was demolished around 2017. For more, see this website.

This former Sambo's was built in 1966. It has housed the Tepanyaki Steak House since 1989. The building was being remodeled when these photos were taken in 2014. Fortunately, it looks the same afterwards. [map]

This former Sambo's was built in 1970. The building was vacant when these photos were taken in 2017. It was repainted red and yellow after that. But the building is now boarded up and remains vacant. [map]

This former Sambo's was built in 1964. It was the first building using this design by Ronald Bergquist. The design was used later for the Yuma, Bakersfield, Coral Gables buildings shown below, as well as others. From 2000-2015, the Tucson building housed Chaffin's Diner. In 2016, the building was restored to reflect its Sambo's origins. It opened that year as the Welcome Diner. It has been closed since 2020. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

This former Sambo's was built in 1966 in conjunction with the Royal Inn Motor Hotel next door. The building has housed a number of restaurants over the years. In 2015, the building was vacant. In 2016, the building was still closed but being renovated. The unique curved-notch panel at the front of the building had been filled in. The building now houses the Oriental House. [map]

This former Sambo's was housing La Mina Mexican Restaurant when these photos were taken in 2012. The building was previously painted purple and white with orange and yellow trim. It was painted the colors shown above in 2008. Around 2021, the building was painted dark blue and began housing the Tazumal restaurant. In 2023, the detail on the side of the roof was being held in place with wood supports. For more, see this website. [map]
