The Sandy's Hamburgers chain was established in Peoria, IL in 1958. By 1968, the company had 100 locations. The buildings were designed by Bob Armstrong. In 1972, there were 240 locations when the company merged with Hardees. By 1973, 90 percent of the Sandy's locations had changed over to the Hardees name. The signs and buildings were changed as well. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

former Sandy's Hamburgers headquarters Kewanee, IL 2009: |
|
2024: |
This Sandy's Hamburgers headquarters was designed by Bob Armstrong and built in 1968. Kewanee was the hometown of the founders of the chain. When Hardees took over the chain, they continued using this building as their headquarters until 1978. The tile mosaics also appeared in the interior of the building. By 2015, the ones on the exterior of the building were gone. I don't know if the ones on the interior are still there. The building was owned by the Open Arms Community Church in 2009. After that, it housed the Sandbur Tack & Western Wear store for a few years and, later, 360 Computer Care. It now seems be used as a private residence. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.
