Storyland opened in 1956 with 26 fairy tale figures including Little Miss Muffett, Puss 'n Boots, Snow White, Pinocchio, Mother Goose, Hansel & Gretel, and Captain Hook. They were built by Blaine Kern, Jr., a famous Mardi Gras floatmaker. Some later figures were added in the 1980s. There was surprisingly little damage from Hurricane Katrina.
