Storybook Island Rapid City, SD
Storybook Island opened in 1959. It has about 150 fairy tale figures scattered through the seven-acre children's park. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |
Storybook Land Aberdeen, SD
Storybook Land opened in Wylie Park in 1977 and is owned by the City of Aberdeen. This park was inspired by Rapid City's Storybook Island. There was never a relationship between the two. Some of the figures appear to have been produced by the same manufacturer, most likely FAST Fiberglass. Part of the park is a tribute to L. Frank Baum, the author of the book The Wizard of Oz, who lived in Aberdeen. In addition to several Wizard of Oz figures, there are many other storybook characters represented. There is also a carousel here. For more, see this website. |
