This former Pure Oil station now houses Century Ecowater Systems. It was built in 1935 by C.W. "Slim" Freitag for his father. Much later, this was used as a 76 station. The building stopped selling gas in the late 1970s and then sat idle for a number of years. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Sometime after 2010, the station was painted with copper details. [first 2007 photo thanks Dennis Curless] [map]

Monroe has another former Pure Oil station. This one has been altered quite a bit and housed a Pizza Zone when this photo was taken in 2007. By 2013, the building had been painted green and was vacant. It remains vacant. [photo thanks Dennis Curless] [map]

Madison, WI
This former Pure Oil station was later a Union 76 station. The building now houses Percy's Service, a car repair shop. [map]

former Pure Oil station
La Crosse, WI
This former Pure Oil station took over a pre-existing station which was built here in 1928. It was a typical looking canopy station at that time. Three bays were located around the corner to the left. In 1937, the building was remodeled to its current look. The station was known as "Henry Ott's Pure Oil Service Station". The portion of the building on the left was used for servicing cars (the bays now bricked up). The right wing of the building was used as a showroom for Hupmobiles and Cadillacs. The station closed in 1962 and the pumps were removed in the mid-1960s. The building was converted for retail use, however, in 2007 when these photos were taken, it appeared to be vacant. By 2009, an auto detailing business had moved in. By 2017, the building was vacant again and it remains vacant. For more, see this website. [map]

Two Rivers, WI
These later model former Pure Oil stations still exhibit the same blue roof tiles as the cottage type stations shown above. These stations would have looked like this one originally. There are other examples of this style station around including these in Madison, WI and Fraser, MI. [Baraboo map]; [Two Rivers map]
