former Esso station Chester, WV |
This former Esso station is now home to the Cactus Club Cafe 2. This building is probably from the late 1940s. [map] |
former Esso station [gone] Parkersburg, WV |
|
This former Esso station appeared to be vacant when these photos were taken in 2012. It looked like this station in Wise, VA originally with a clock installed in the pylon. This building had been demolished by 2018. |
former Phillips 66 station Caldwell, WV |
Union 76 station Grafton, WV |
|
This former Phillips 66 station was vacant when this photo was taken in 2012. It is still vacant in 2022. [map]
This Union 76 station was most likely built as a Pure Oil station. The sign pole is a Pure Oil design. The station is now known as Poling's Union 76 and is still pumping gas. [map] |
former Amoco station Clarksburg, WV |
||
This former Amoco station now houses a used car dealership. Evidently, the building housed a Union 76 in its last years as a gas station. By 2018, the porcelain panels had been removed and the building was faced with stone. [map] |
former Gulf station Beckley, WV |
This former Gulf station was vacant when this photo was taken in 2012. Since 2016, the building has housed Poncho & Lefty's restaurant. [map] |
former Gulf station Alderson, WV |
|
This former Gulf station was built in 1955. It was being restored for the Greenbrier River Interpretive Center when this photo was taken in 2012. The building now houses the Alderson Visitors Center. For more, see this website. [map] |
Sunoco station Huntington, WV |
|
This Sunoco station was built around 1990. It replaced a more standard looking station with bays. The only other giant sign from the 1960s like this one left that I know of is in Southfield, MI. [map] |
