The Railsplitter Covered Wagon is 40 feet long and 24 feet tall. It was built in 2001 from steel and oak by David Bentley on his property in Divernon, IL. The 12-foot-tall fiberglass statue of Lincoln reading a law book was custom-made by FAST of Sparta, WI. In 2007, Bentley sold the wagon and statue to Larry Van Bibber who donated them to the City of Lincoln, IL. The wagon and statue were restored at that point and installed in Lincoln. In 2009, they were moved to the current location in town. In 2014, strong winds damaged the Covered Wagon and nearly knocked it over. It was repaired later that year. The figure at the top is not meant to represent Lincoln. Supposedly, the carver used a photo of him to create a generic white man. For more, see this website. [map]
