Power Putter Miniature Golf Bethpage, NY |
Power Putter Miniature Golf, aka Bethpage Miniature Golf, appears to be an old course from the style of its 18-hole course. Most of the figures are old-looking as well. The New York Yankees cow is a whimsical new addition. There are also batting cages. [map] |
Around the World Mini Golf Lake George, NY |
Around the World Mini Golf is one of the most elaborate and incredible mini golf facilities in the country. It has been here since at least the 1970s. I believe it probably opened in the 1960s. Each hole has a separate theme and elaborate well-maintained figures and structures. The "Around the U.S." course represents different states while the "Around the World" courses features different countries. The carpeted greens include faux sand traps. The courses are still tweaked a little but most is original. In 2002, the 18th hole of the American course was changed to depict the New York subway. In 2003, the owner added a roulette wheel to the Las Vegas hole. There was once a single-course Around the World Mini Golf in Lake Placid, NY with an international theme. This course was created and run by the same man. However, it was demolished and replaced with a Pirate's Cove (modern chain course). This Paul Bunyan statue was produced by International Fiberglass. It was originally installed at the Oregon Pavilion at the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair. The course had a neon sign (first photo above circa 2001) which has been replaced with a plastic box sign (second photo). For more, see this website. [map] |
Sportsworks Family Fun Park (now Champions Golf Center) Macedon, NY |
Sportsworks, now Champions Golf Center, has two mini golf courses, a driving range, and batting cages. Some of the holes are very long and make full use of the hillside setting. There was previously a Rinky Dink course at this site which was built in 1987. Rinky Dink was a mini golf chain that appears to still have locations in Batavia, NY, Rochester, NY, and Medina, OH. When Sportsworks took over this place in 1993, they kept just the concrete and framing of each hole and built the obstacles and decorative elements from scratch. [map] |
