Shadowbrook Inn & Resort Tunkhannock, PA |
|
In addition to their golf course, the Shadowbrook Inn features this classic course. This is a Taylor Brothers design with similar obstacles and brickwork to the Fairmount Glen course in Syracuse, NY. This course may have been designed by Steve Alger who worked for the Taylor Brothers and continued building courses after they stopped. An employee at the golf course said that this mini golf course was built around 1968. For more, see this website. [map] |
Frosty Putter Lewisberry, PA |
|
The Frosty Putter course was built in 1991. The 18-hole course is very well-maintained. There is also ice cream and arcade games. [map] |
Golf Resort [gone] New Kensington, PA |
||
The focus of Golf Resort was on its driving range. This mini golf featured some fun figures including an Esso station tiger. These photos are from around 2001. By 2013, the mini golf course was gone and the placed looked like it had been abandoned for a while. |
Spring Lake Recreation Center [gone] Chadds Ford, PA | ||
after "Jackass": |
The Spring Lake Recreation Center had signage indicating that it was a "Gooney Golf" (usually spelled Goony Golf) at one time. The hillside course had an animal theme with signs identifying it as "Ernie's Zoo" and "All Adventure Animals". The lower course contained classic Goony Golf figures. The facility also had a driving range and batting cages.
Both courses were well-maintained originals up until 2003 (when these photos were taken). The property, in a booming development area, was put up for sale in 2003. That same year, many of the figures were damaged by vandals during the making of "Jackass: The Movie". It is rumored that Spring Lake's owner was paid by the movie's producers to allow the damage to occur. All the figures (pig, polar bear, rabbit, dolphin, etc.) from the hillside course were damaged and/or removed. Most of the figures from the lower course were damaged. In 2005, the place was still open and the hillside course has been cleaned up somewhat with most of the figures removed. The figures on the lower course remained in their damaged state. In 2007, the place was demolished. For more, see this website for photos taken in 2005. |
