The Mormon Temple was built for the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints between 1968-1974. It is the third largest Mormon temple in the world, situated on 57 acres. It cost $15 million to build and stands 280 feet tall. One of the six spires is topped with an 18' tall statue of the Angel Moroni, a Mormon prophet. The exterior is covered with Alabama marble. Translucent windows of 5/8 inch thick marble light the interior. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map] |
