Hartwig's Gobbler Supper Club was designed by Helmut Ajango and built from 1966-1967. The building had a circular floor plan with a rotating bar at its center. Turkey was a big part of the restaurant's menu. The building features turkey eye shaped windows and railings. The restaurant featured a pink and purple interior. The adjacent motel, now demolished, was round in shape.
Hartwig died in 1979 and the place began to decline. The restaurant changed owners and names and eventually a major fire closed the place for many years. In 2002, it reopened as the "Round Stone Restaurant". It closed that same year and was vacant and for sale since then. In 2015, the building was restored and reopened as the Gobbler Theater, featuring concerts and comedy shows. The revolving bar was preserved. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map] |

La Crosse Community Theatre and Cavalier Lounge La Crosse, WI |

The La Crosse Community Theatre was founded in 1963 and I believe they moved into this building and remodeled the facade then. The building was originally a theatre in the 1940s. The cavalier head statue on the building was designed by Bob Johnson and produced by Naegle Outdoor Advertising. It was probably installed on the building when the theatre was built. The building's other occupant, the Cavalier Lounge, has been here since 1934. The interior has been updated over the years. [map] |
