The Southern Cleaners' building was for sale in 2010 when this photo was taken. However, the company still seemed to be in business. By 2014, the building had been demolished and the sign was gone. |

3-D International Restaurant & Lounge Black Eagle, MT |
Hotel Roosevelt Glasgow, MT |
The 3-D International Restaurant & Lounge opened in 1946. The scaffold sign was built in 1951. The neon was replaced with LED tubing by 2018. For more, see this website. [map]
The Hotel Roosevelt scaffold sign was there by 1950. It might be older than that. |
Hotel Finlen Butte, MT |
Hotel Baxter Bozeman, MT |
The Hotel Finlen was built in 1924. There was originally a large, vertical sign on the building. That sign has been gone for decades. This rooftop sign was installed in the 1940s or after that. [map]
The Hotel Baxter opened in 1929. This 32-foot-tall sign is from then. It has 400 feet of neon tubing. The sign went dark in the 1960s. From 2012-2013, the sign was restored. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map] |

Davis Oil Co. (Keene) |
Devil Dog Manufacturing Zebulon, NC |
This Devil Dog Manufacturing, a jeans manufacturer, was established in 1948. The company opened this distribtuion center in 1952. This sign was built then. It was restored in 2023. [map] |

WMPM (Smithfield) Thomas Drugs (Wilson) [gone] |
I. Keating Furniture World Williston, ND |
I. Keating Furniture World was established in 1934. I don't know if this was the original location. This store now also houses an Ashley HomeStore. These two rooftop signs are probably from the 1950s. There are now five other locations in North Dakota and Montana. [map] |
Henry Stahla Mobile Homes Kimball, NE |
City View Apartments Omaha, NE |
This Henry Stahla Mobile Homes sign might be from the 1950s. The business is now known as Henry Stahla Homes and has an office downtown. This property had veen vacant for many years and this sign was buried in the trees until around 2019. The property behind the sign is now being used as Stahla's North Court RV Park. [map]
The City View Apartments were built in 1953 and this sign is most likely from then. [map] |
Marcal Paper Mills [gone] Elmwood Park, NJ |

Marcal Paper Mills had been making tissues, toilet paper, and paper towels here since 1939. The sign was installed in 1948. There were two of these signs of the roof. They were angled for visibility from I-80. The sign was turned off in 2009 and then restored in 2014 with LED tubing. In 2019, the building and sign were destroyed in a fire. |
Forks Tavern & Restaurant [gone] Pennsville, NJ |
Flash Cleaners [gone] Rutherford, NJ |
The Forks Tavern & Restaurant has been closed for many years but this rooftop sign remains. In 2015, plans were announced to demolish the building and the nearby gas station. By 2016, the building and sign were gone.
The Flash Cleaners sign was probably from the 1950s. The neon was missing when this photo was taken in 2011. The sign was still there in 2013. The business was still there in 2016 but the sign was gone. |
Vineland Municipal Electric Utility Vineland, NJ |
The Vineland Municipal Electric Utility sign went dark for a few years but the neon was restored and relit around 2008. In 2023, the building was demolished. The City has saved the sign and will replace the neon with LED tubing. It is not yet known where it will be installed. For more, see this website. |
Kelly's Cafe [gone] Wildwood, NJ |

The Kelly's Cafe opened in 1938. These signs appeared to be from the 1950s or 1960s. In 2023, Kelly's closed and the signs were all removed. The building now houses the Copper Dog and the scaffolding now supports a new, modern sign. |
