former dealership Bowling Green, KY |
This former dealership appears to be from the 1930s. The building has been vacant for many years. Does anyone know anything about it? [map] |
Cross Chrysler Jeep Louisville, KY |
Cross Chrysler Jeep has a domed, round showroom. While this building looks a lot like a Dodge Dome, I'm told that it was built in 1977 when Cross was selling Pontiacs. [map] |
Paul Miller Ford Lexington, KY |
Paul Miller Ford is now known as the Paul Miller Auto Outlet since they now sell other makes of cars in addition to Fords. In 1953, the company was established in downtown Lexington. In 1964, the dealership moved to this new dealership. These photos are from 2010. Sometime between 2012 and 2015, the neon "FORD" letters on the sign were replaced with backlit plastic letters.
Hyperbolic parabola roofs such as this one were all the rage in the mid-1960s. The Ken Wilson Chevrolet building in Vestal, NY featured the same design. There are numerous other examples of banks, churches, and other buildings with these roofs throughout my Mid-Century Modern section as well. For more, see this website. [map] |
