The Flamingo Hotel opened in 1957 and is now the Flamingo Conference Resort and Spa. It was inspired by the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. The nine-foot-tall pink flamingo and disk revolve on top of the 85 foot tall sign. It was restored in 1997. In 2024, the flamingo and letters on the disk were changed from neon to LED tubing. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map] |
United Service Motors Santa Rosa, CA |
Redwood Gospel Mission Santa Rosa, CA |
United Service Motors was established in 1916 to handle sales for the United Motors Corporation, an accessories and parts manufacturer. There are a handful of these signs still on display around the country. However, I have never seen one with a passenger like this one. It is on display at Stoke Ranch, a private collection of antique tractors, small buildings, and signs. [map]
The Redwood Gospel Mission was established in 1963. This sign has been here since then. It probably came from somewhere else and was originally a pole sign or projecting sign. For more, see this website. [map] |

Stark's Steak & Seafood opened in 2008. This text on this vertical sign was changed at that time. The signs originally advertised for Guidotti's Italian Restaurant which opened in 1934. The sign and neon on the building were probably built in the 1940s or 1950s. The name and text on the vertical sign were also changed in 1967 for Michele's Italian Restaurant. The Ted's Liquor sign might be from the 1950s. Ted's might not be the original name. The letter "Q" looks like it's shaped like a bird. [map] The Toadstool bar blade sign appears to be adapted. I don't know when this place opened or how old the neon toads are. [map] The Southland Motel and its rooftop sign have been around since at least the early 1940s. This photo is from 2013. By 2014, the sign had been replaced with a new non-neon replacement. For more, see this website. |
