Club Sedalia, MO |
Sunset Motel [gone] Sedalia, MO |
This Club sign hangs above a long-closed nightclub. [map]
The Sunset Motel sign was replaced with a plastic box sign in 2007. Some parts of the sign were saved and are now in a private collection. For more, see this website. |
Hotel Bothwell Sedalia, MO |
|
2024: | |
The Hotel Bothwell was built in 1927 as part of the Sweet Hotel chain with other locations in Kansas and Missouri. The original I-shaped, projecting sign originally read "Sweet" at the top, "Bothwell" at the bottom, and "Hotels" verically between them. It appeared to be a bulb sign originally. This T-shaped, projecting neon sign and the canopy sign was there by the 1940s. Around 2020, the projecting sign was restored and the service ladders were removed. It might actually be a replica sign. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3. [map] |
State Fair Floral Sedalia, MO |
||
2010: | 2024: | |
State Fair Floral was established in 1912. This sign is probably from the 1950s. It was restored in 2023. [map] |
More Sedalia:
Sho-Me Kort: 1, 2, 3 [gone] State Fair Shopping Center |
First Baptist Church Seneca, MO |
Kings Harbor Resort Shell Knob, MO |
The First Baptist Church sign is probably from the 1950s. It is installed on the back of the building in order to be seen when driving into town. [map]
The Kings Harbor Resort was built in 1959 and this crown sign might be from then. [map] |
Slater:
Kelvinator & Philco [gone] |
Congress Inn St. Ann, MO |
|
This Congress Inn sign is probably from the 1960s. This motel was part of a chain. The top part of this sign has been changed to read Congress Airport Inn. The sign would have originally looked like this one. There was a better-preserved example of these signs in Nashville, TN. [map] |
More St. Ann:
Airway Drive-in American Doughnut Company [gone] |
Buse's Flowers [gone] St. Charles, MO |
Clark Auto St. Charles, MO |
Buse's Flowers opened in the late 1800s. This sign was probably from the 1950s or earlier. The original FTD logo was covered with a Teleflora logo in 2005. The sign was removed in 2020 and is now in a private collection. For more, see this website.
This used cars sign at Clark Auto was mass-produced and apparently installed nationwide. There is an identical sign in Troy, NY and another in St. Joseph, MO that is missing its streamers. I don't know if there was a make of car associated with these signs like Chevrolet's "OK" used car signs. [map] |
The Soda Museum St. Charles, MO |
|
These signs are located inside The Soda Museum. The Venker Drug sign is an example of a mass-produced Coca-Cola "privilege sign" which could be customized with the name of the business where it was to be displayed. These were double-sided signs but this one has only one side remaining. The A&W and Budweiser signs were also mass-produced. The St. Charles Dairy Co. was a local company. All of these signs appear to be from the 1950s. |
Neon Time St. Charles, MO |
||
The Neon Time sign shop is owned by Dave Hutson. He manufactures new signs and restores old ones. A small collection of vintage signs are on display at his shop. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |
