The Strand Theatre in Clinton opened in 1924. It closed in the late 1970s and then reopened in 1995. For more, see this website. [map]
The Strand Theatre in Dorchester opened in 1918 as a vaudeville house. Movies were added in the 1930s. The theatre closed in 1969 and was partially renovated in the late 1970s. Renovation is still ongoing while the theatre is open for live performances and community events. In 2023, the theatre was closed while the city is looking for a new operator. The Mohawk Theatre opened in 1938 and closed in 1991. The city bought it in 1993 and the marquee was restored in 1999. The theatre will eventually become a performing arts center. A replica marquee was built by ABC Sign Corp. and installed in 2023. The neon was replaced with LED tubing. The building remains vacant. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]
The Capitol Theatre opened in 1922 and closed in the 1980s. The building now houses the Frio Senior Center. The interior was gutted but the marquee was saved. In 2018, restoration of the marquee sign began. It was reinstalled in 2019. For more, see this website. [map] |
