Fargo Theatre

The Fargo Theatre opened in 1926. It was remodeled in 1937 by Liebenberg & Kaplan. The theatre is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It still has the original Wurlitzer pipe organ. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3. [map]

Kota Theatre

The Kota Theatre opened in 1949. It is now operated by the Sakakawea Area Council for the Arts and used for live performances and movies. For more, see this website. [map]

The Strand Theatre was built in the 1920s. It was destroyed in 1945 and rebuilt the following year. The round marquee and original ticket booth was removed sometime after 2015. For more, see this website. [map]

The Empire Theatre was built in 1919 as the New Grand Theatre. It was remodeled in 1954 and renamed as the Empire Theatre. It closed in 1994 and was donated to the local arts council. The Traill Theatre was built in the 1920s as the Gem Theatre. In 1942, it became the Trail Theatre. It has been vacant for many years. For more, see this website. [map]

The Mandan Theatre opened in 1936. It became the Showboat Cinema in 1974. It was renamed the Academy Theatre in 1987 which closed in 1993. In 2008, it became the Mysteria Theatre. When it closed in 2014, it was adapted as a restaurant and sports bar known as the Little Chicago Club. The building now houses the Strawberry Bar. For more, see this website. [map]

The Rockford Theatre opened in 1920 as the Blackstone Theatre. I don't know when it became the Rockford. In 2022, the roof collapsed and the building was gutted. They are hoping to rebuild. For more, see this website. [map]

The Walla Theatre was built in 1949 and closed in 1982. In 2019, it reopened as a live performance venue. For more, see this website. [map]

New Grand Theatre
Williston, ND
The Grand Theatre opened in 1920 as a single-screen theatre. It now has four screens. I don't know when it became the New Grand Theatre. The sign might be original and lit with bulbs. The letters at the bottom appear to be backlit opal glass. At some point, channel letters replaced the original letters. For more, see this website. [map]
