Stadium Theatre Woonsocket, RI |

The Avon Cinema building itself is from 1915 when it opened as the Toy Theatre. It didn't last long and was converted into a garage. In 1938, it reopened as the Avon Cinema after an Art Deco remodeling. In the 1970s, it was known as the Avon Repertory Cinema. The theatre still features a single screen. The Stadium Theatre opened in 1926 and is now known officially as the Stadium Theatre Performing Arts Centre. The marquee was replaced with this one in 1956. The Stadium closed in the 1970s but with community efforts in the 1990s, the theatre was saved and restored. It has its original Mighty Wurlitzer and features organ concerts. The marquee was updated with an LED screen around 2008. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3. [map] |
