former Firestone Toledo, OH |
||
This former Firestone appears to be from the 1920s or 1930s. The building was vacant when these photos were taken in 2009. It was still vacant in 2019 and the windows were boarded up. [map] |
Firestone Cleveland Heights, OH |
|
This Firestone store was probably built in the 1930s. [map] |
Firestone Lakewood, OH |
This Firestone has been here since 1947. I believe this building and canopy were built for a Firestone dealer before that. The building now houses Lakewood Tire Pros but the Firestone sign remains. [map] |
Kettering Auto Service [gone] Dayton, OH |
Firestone Akron, OH |
Kettering Auto Service had been here since 1960. The sign read "Kettering Auto Service" on one side and "Kettering Tire Service" on the other. It probably revolved. By 2018, the building was housing Redline Motorworks and this sign was gone.
The Firestone sign in Akron was installed on the roof of the former Firestone Tire factory. The letters are 11 feet tall. In 2020, the sign was removed for restoration and relocation when plans arose to demolish the building. The scaffolding was replaced with a new grid support and the neon was replaced with LED rope. The sign was installed about a block away at the Advanced Tire Production Center. For more, see this website. [map] |
Firestone Cleveland, OH |
|
This Firestone store appears to be from the 1950s or 1960s. These photos are from 2010. By 2018, the neon pole sign was gone and the letters on the roof were replaced with a backlit plastic sign. [map] |
Howard's Tire Service Sidney, OH |
Grismer Auto Service Dayton, OH |
The Howard's Tire Service building looks like it was built in the 1930s. I don't know if it has always been a Firestone dealer. [map]
Grismer Auto Service was established in 1932 and has been a Firestone dealer since the beginning. The company now has about two dozen locations in Ohio. This sign was probably a double-sided pole sign or rooftop sign originally. This sign is lit at night. For more, see this website. [map] |
