Du Quoin State Fair Du Quoin, IL |
The Du Quoin State Fair was founded in 1923. The main entrance shown here was built in 1948. It features twin gate houses. A metal arch with the words "World Trotting Derby" connected them. It previously read "Hambletonian". In 2010, the Fair stopped hosting the World Trotting Derby and the letters were removed. The billboard sign shown in the last photo above was probably built much later and updated with the graphic display board at some point. For more, see this website. [map] |

The Mount Olive Missionary Church looks like a quonset hut but the structure was actually produced in 1937 by the R. G. LeTourneau manufacturing plant, a local factory which was developing steel houses. This building now houses the Last Harvest Missionary Church. For more, see this website. [map] |

The Elgin Tower was built in 1929 as the Home Banks Building. It was designed by designed by W. G. Knoebel. When the First National Bank of Chicago moved into the building in 1932, it was renamed the Elgin Tower Building. For more, see this website. [map] |
