former Arctic Girl Athens, GA |
The Arctic Girl, a frozen custard stand, was built in 1950 and had a large rooftop sign. It was still operating in the 1970s. The building has housed many different restaurants over the years. It now houses Tamez Barbecue. [map] |
Leopold's Ice Cream Savannah, GA |
|
Leopold's Ice Cream began making homemade ice cream in 1919. The store closed in 1970 but reopened in 2004 at a different location. They still use the original recipes at this simulated ice cream parlor. Much of the décor is original including the soda fountain, back bar, sundae holders, and the malted milk dispenser. The Philco radio and phone booth are from the original store. For more, see this website. [map] |
