This former station appears to be from the 1920s. It had been vacant for many years. In 2010, the building began housing the Clutch Cuts men's hair salon. [map]

Berta's Garage
Seneca, IL
Berta's Garage was built in 1934. It was a Mobilgas station in 1945 but I don't know what brand was sold here originally. It may have been a Phillips 66 station at one time. Does anyone know more about the history of this building? These photos are from 2009. By 2018, the building was housing the Main Street Garage. [map]

former station
Blue Island, IL
This former station now houses Mufflers 4 Less. The slate roof appears to be original. The doorways probably had rustic stonework around them originally. The bay building was obviously added later. This may have been built as a Conoco station. [map]

former Texaco station

This former Texaco station was built in the 1930s. The building now houses the Route History Museum which focuses on historic black people, businesses, and events on Illinois' Route 66 during the Jim Crow and Civil Rights eras. [map]

Bill Shea's Gas Station Museum
Springfield, IL

2005:

2024:
Bill Shea's Gas Station Museum included a former Texaco station, later Marathon station, that operated from 1946-1982 (shown top left above and bottom row). The museum also displayed the former station owned by John Mahan (top right above) which was built in 1917 and installed in Middletown, IL. At the time, it was assembled from a kit by Butler Manufacturing which was based in Springfield. The station was moved to the museum in 2000. It was dressed with Phillips 66 signs but I don't know if it ever was used for that brand. There were also old signs, pumps, Route 66 artifacts, etc. Bill Shea died in 2013. In 2015, the contents of the museum were auctioned off. The property was sold after the auction. The Texaco/Marathon station is still there. The museum reopened in 2024. [map]

In 2016, Mahan's station was moved to Fulgenzi's Pizza & Pasta in town where it was restored with the Phillips 66 signs and pumps. [map]
