Colonel Sanders and Ronald McDonald Hatch, NM |
|
2012: | 2017: |
These Colonel Sanders and Ronald McDonald statues came from Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonald's restaurants, respectively. These statues were installed in front of Sparky's restaurant when these photos were taken in 2012 (see below). By 2014, these statues were not on display there. The Colonel statue is now at the owner's Franciscan RV dealership up the road. I don't know what became of the Ronald statue. There are other statues at the RV dealership including a Cowboy, a Soda Jerk, and a couple of A&W Mama Burger statues. [map] |
Sparky's Restaurant Hatch, NM |
||||
This Yeoman statue was produced by Beefeater Gin. It is about six feet tall. The statue is installed inside Sparky's restaurant. To the right of the Yeoman is a statue of a Toy Soldier.
The Robin Hood and the other statues are located across the street from Sparky's restaurant. The Robin Hood was installed here in 2015. His move to Hatch was the subject of a Shipping Wars episode. In 2024, he fell forward and his foot and bow were damaged. He was put in storage until he can be restored and put back on display. There are other Robin Hood statues like this in Colorado Springs, CO and Lake George, NY (gone). They were produced by Ben Robinson for the Plycrete Mold Co. of Elk Rapids, MN. The anthropomorphic Chile Couple and the Yogi Bear statue were created by Mark Cline. Cline may have built the Robot as well. The Piggy Bank was located on the west side of town in 2010. The Big Boy statue is located across the street in front of an antiques store. It appears to be a copy. [map] |
Knight [gone] Tucumcari, NM |
San Felipe de Neri Albuquerque, NM |
Apple Boy Mountain Park, NM |
Atlas Albuquerque, NM |
||
This Knight statue was installed at a former gas station. By 2016, the statue had been repainted. It is either gone or it has been moved. These statues were mass-produced and can be found in different parts of the country. For example, there's one in Cave City, KY.
This wooden statue of San Felipe de Neri was previously located at the Church of San Felipe de Neri downtown. Since around 2017, the statue has been located at the Casa Barelas community center. [map] This Apple Boy statue is located at the Old Apple Barn. The statue was sculpted by the store's owner, Bill Niffenegger, in 2010. The statue is about 12 feet tall. These photos are from 2012. In 2021, the statue was repainted. [map] This Atlas statue is installed in front of the World Dental Implant Center. It has been there since at least 2007. These statues were mass-produced for Jack LaLanne Fitness Centers. For more, see this page. [map] |
Alien & Billy the Kid Ruidoso, NM (now Glencoe, NM) 2012: |
||
2017: | |
These Alien and Billy the Kid statues were located at the Ruidoso River Museum. Around 2015, the museum moved to Fox Cave in Glencoe. I believe the Alien statue is gone. However, the Billy the Kid statue was relocated. In 2017, it was lying on the ground and the gun was missing from his holster. [map] |
