Pilgrim's Pride [gone]Pittsburg, TX | |||
Pilgrim's Pride, a poultry producer, was founded in 1946 by Bo Pilgrim. In the late 1960s, a pilgrim's hat, Bo's trademark, was mounted on the roof of Pilgrim's Place, a restaurant in downtown Pittsburg. When the restaurant closed in 2001, the hat was put in storage. In 2002, the company commissioned a 37-foot-tall fiberglass bust of Bo on which to display the hat. The bust was installed in front of their freezer and distribution plant. In the gazebo under the bust, there is also a bronze statue of Bo Pilgrim reading the Bible with his chicken, Henrietta. In 2010, it was announced that Pilgrim's Pride was moving its headquarters to Greeley, CO. In 2019, in advance of the move, the head and statues were removed. The smaller statue will be displayed at a bank in town. The disassembled head is now in storage. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |
