Missouri Mid-Century Modern Office Buildings (page 2)

The buildings below originally housed Mid-West National Insurance Company offices which were built in the 1960s. The company was based in Springfield, MO. The buildings had plexiglass domes at the center of the roof above which was a revolving, round plastic ball with a map of the United States. They were known as "Golden Roof Service Centers," so I assume the roofs were painted gold originally. For more, see this website.

There were at least eight other locations in Missouri not shown or linked here as well as Salt Lake City, UT (demolished in 2011) and Mountain Home, AR. There were plans to operate in all 50 states. There are known surviving buildings in Sikeston, MO, Tulsa, OK, Newport, AR, and Bells, TN.

The first Mid-West National Insurance Company building shown above now houses Mr. Appliance and a psychic office. I believe this is the only survivor that still has the dome and plastic ball. [map]

The Mid-West National Insurance Company building in Moberly was built in 1965. It now houses a loan office. [map]

The Mid-West National Insurance Company building in Elsberry now houses American Family Insurance. [map]

The Mid-West National Insurance Company building in Monett now houses the K & K Insurance Agency. The wood paneling and other features in the interior might be original. [map]

The Mid-West National Insurance Company building in Springfield in the last row housed a chiropractic office for many years. It now houses Relaxing Asian Massage. [map]

The Mid-West National Insurance Company building in Montgomery City has housed a Subway since at least 2008. [map]
