This Admiral Benbow Inn was probably built in the early 1960s. The building now houses the Admiral Retirement Center. There were Admiral Benbow Inns in the South with similar designs in about 18 locations including: Memphis, TN, Chattanooga, TN, Nashville, TN, Pine Bluff, AR, and Louisville, KY. [map] |
Sun-n-Sand Motel Jackson, MS |

The Sun-n-Sand Motel was built in 1960. It closed in 2001 and had been boarded up since then. In 2019, the property was sold to the state of Mississippi. In 2020, demolition began. The property will be turned into a parking lot. The canopy and remodeled motel office building remain. The sign was removed in 2022 for restoration. It was reinstalled in 2023. The former Travel Inn was designed by Chris Risher, Sr. and built in 1957. The building later housed a Super Inn. It was demolished by 2021. For more, see this website. |
