commercial building
La Porte, TX
This commercial building was built in 1960. I don't know what business was here originally. In recent years, it housed a fine arts studio and then a car title loans office. The building was vacant when this photo was taken in 2018. By 2021, the building was housing CR International and the canopy had been removed. [map]

shelters
Littlefield, TX
There are several of these two types of shelters on Phelps Avenue downtown. They appear to be from the 1960s. [map]

Merkel Restaurant
Merkel, TX
The Merkel Restaurant was built in 1955. It has been vacant for many years. [map]

Joe Gool Office Machines
Midland, TX
The five, overlapping mushroom canopies were built for Joe Gool Office Machines around 1962. The property has housed several used car dealerships since then. There's nothing special about the building itself. It may not be the original. [map]

Golder Pharmacy
Odessa, TX
The Golder Pharmacy building appears to be from the 1960s. [map]

Strawberry Pavilion
Pasadena, TX
The Strawberry Pavilion was designed by Charles Holcomb of Fitch & Holcomb and built around 1965. It is located in Strawberry Park. Pasadena has been named the Strawberry Capital of the World. For more, see this website. [map]

former Burger Train
Plainview, TX
former Burger Train
Midland, TX
Instead of car hops, the Burger Train drive-in chain featured trains operated on tracks collecting cash and delivering food to customers. The buildings were designed by Richard L. Dunham. The chain featured plastic globe signs projecting from the roof. The first Burger Train was built in Del City, OK in 1969. It was known as Henry's Burger Train. That building is gone now. There were plans to build another location in Oklahoma City but I don't know if that ever happened. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

This Plainview location was built in 1970. It is now occupied by Merit Kennels. There was previously an A&W Root Beer on the lot before this was built. The A&W was destroyed by a tornado earlier in 1970. [map]

The Midland location was also known as Love's Burger Train. It was built by 1971. The building most recently housed a hair salon. It appeared to be vacant when these photos were taken in 2020. [map]

If you know if any other locations, I'd love to hear from you.

commercial building
Richardson, TX
This commercial building is part of a small shopping center. It was probably built in the 1960s. It has been vacant for at least a few years. Does anyone know what this building housed originally or when it was built? [map]

San Antonio, TX
This building is located at the San Antonio International Airport and houses the San Antonio Airport Badge and ID Office. The building was designed by Clarence W.W. Mayhew. It built in 1968 as the Executive Aircraft Terminal. The building is currently endangered and will be demolished unless it is moved. [map]

Guadalupe St.
San Antonio, TX
I believe these Jif-E Mart stores were built in the early 1970s. The Guadalupe St. location is the only double canopy example that I know of. If you know of other Jif-E Mart buildings that still exist, I'd love to hear from you. [Austin Highway map]; [N. Zarzamora St. map]; [General McMullen Dr. map]; [W.
