Traubel's Popcorn

The Traubel's Popcorn stand opened in 1937. In 1987, the original stand was donated to the Gage County Historical Society where it is displayed. A replica was built and installed in 2014 across the street from where the original was located. The stand is operated by Community Possibilities which donates the profits to local groups. The Sweete Shoppe was built in 1948 and originally housed Smitty's Zesto. This business and sign are probably from the early 1960s. [map]

Scotty's Drive-in

This Scotty's Drive-in opened in 1963 and was originally part of a chain. By 1966, there were seven locations in at least six states. The chain disbanded in 1968 and the surviving locations began operating independently. For more, see this website. [map]
The other three surviving locations are in Aberdeen, SD; Idaho Falls, ID; and Bismarck, ND. There were other locations in Mitchell, SD; Sioux City, IA; Glendive, MT; Helena, MT, and possibly others. If you know of any others, I'd love to hear about them.
