The Union Tank Car Company dome was built in 1958 as the world's first large industrial use of the geodesic concept. It was used as a train car repair and paint shop. The building was abandoned when these photos were taken in 2006. In 2007, the building was demolished. The same design was used to build a dome in Wood River, IL which is still there.
