[map] There were originally two neon pole signs at the Topper Motel that appeared to be from the 1950s. Both were gone by 2007. The one on the left is now in a private collection. This directional sign pointing down the street to the motel was also gone by 2024. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |
Wardrobe Cleaners Casper, WY |
former Western Grill Casper, WY |

The Wardrobe Cleaners opened in 1916 and closed in 2019. There were raceway letters on the building originally but those were gone by 2021. This sign is probably from the 1950s or 1960s. The top panel has the word "Futurmatic" painted on it. There are rocket ship type fins below the panels. The building has been demolished but the sign is still there. [map]

Lou Taubert Ranch Outfitters Casper, WY |
|||
Lou Taubert Ranch Outfitters was founded in Casper in 1919. This building dates to at least 1907 and initially housed a furniture store. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In the 1920s and 1930s, it housed a Golden Rule store and a JC Penney store. By the mid-1950s, the building housed Gordon's Jewelers. The Gordon's terrazzo tile apron remains. Taubert's moved to this location around 1964 and these signs are probably from then. The company expanded to the building next door by the 1980s. Another location opened in Billings, MT in 1979. The signs were restored in 2010. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3. [map] |
Sanford's Grub & Pub Casper, WY |
||
Sanford's Grub & Pub has a collection of neon signs inside the restaurant. I don't believe the gas station signs in the top row or the Goodyear sign in the second row had neon originally. The Pontiac sign might be an original or a replica. The Dog n Suds sign is probably original. The "Food" sign was originally a Ford sign like this one. |

The Wyoming Motel opened in 1936. There was a different pole sign there in the mid-1960s. This neon sign must have been built after that. The sign was painted orange and blue by 2017. In 2023, the sign fell over in high winds and was badly bent. It was removed and replaced with a small plastic box sign. The neon sign is now at the Frontier Auto Museum where it will be restored and displayed. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
The Lariat Motel sign had neon originally. It was probably built in the 1950s. By 2021, the word "MOTEL" had been painted over and the building was boarded up. In 2022, it was announced that the building would be adapted for apartments. The owner plans to relight the sign. [map] |
