Zoe Theatre

The Zoe Theatre opened in 1950 and has been closed since 1986. Many of the vitrolite tiles on the facade are missing at this point. For more, see this website. [map]

Apollo Theatre

The Apollo Theatre was built in 1882 as the Apollo Opera House. It was showing movies by the 1920s. The theatre is still operating. For more, see this website. [map]

State Theatre

Hub Theatre

The Hub Theatre opened in 1931. In the 1980s, it was split into three screens. In 2017, work began to convert the building into Kennay Farms Distilling. The marquee was removed. For more, see this website. [map]

Fort Armstrong Theatre
Rock Island, IL
The Fort Armstrong Theatre opened as the Fort Theatre in 1921. It featured vaudeville acts and silent films. In the late 1970s, it was converted into the Circa 21 Dinner Playhouse. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For more, see this website. [map]

Times Theatre

Rockford, IL
The Times Theatre opened in 1938 and closed in 1983. In 1989, it reopened as a restaurant and bar with live entertainment. It closed in 2003 and has been looking for a buyer since then. These photos are from 2012. For more, see this website. [map]

The Midway Theatre opened in 1918. It was designed in a Spanish Colonial style. A fire in the 1970s gutted the lobby but the auditorium is still intact. The Midway was last used for live performances. However, the theatre has been vacant since 2006. For more, see this website. [map]

Coronado Theatre

Rockford, IL
The Coronado Theatre opened in 1927. The atmospheric interior features a lavish castle-like courtyard design and a Barton Organ. The theatre was used for movies and stage shows until the late 1960s. It closed in 1984 and underwent an $18 million renovation. The theatre reopened in 2001 as a performing arts center. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Auburn Theatre opened in 1942 and closed in 1967. It was converted for retail use after sitting empty for many years. The building housed a hardware store and later a thrift store. The building is now boarded up. For more, see this website. [map]
