Liberty Theatre
Murphysboro, IL
The Liberty Theatre opened in 1913 as the Tilford Theatre. It became the Liberty Theatre in 1918. In 1938, the exterior was remodeled with this marquee sign and vitrolite facade. The theatre closed in 1998 and then reopened after renovations in 2002. It is now used for community events and films. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

Normal, IL

Lake Theatre
Oak Park, IL
The Lake Theatre opened in 1936. In 1985, the theatre was triplexed and in the mid-1990s it was subdivided further into seven screens. By 2021, the readerboard marquee had been replaced with electronic display boards. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3. [map]

Arcadia Theatre
Olney, IL

The Arcadia Theatre was built in 1927. It closed in 2016. In 2021, a new owner was planning on restoring the theatre as an events center. By 2023, the sign above the marquee had been removed. In 2024, the building was back on the market. For more, see this website. [map]

Roxy Theatre
Ottawa, IL
The Roxy Theatre opened around 1910 as the Gayety Theatre, a vaudeville house. In 1932, it was renamed the Roxy Theatre and began showing movies. The theatre was twinned in the mid-1980s. A few years later, an addition was built and four more screens were added. It now operates as the VIP Roxy Cinemas. For more, see this website. [map]

Roseland Theatre
Pana, IL
The Roseland Theatre opened in 1940 and is still in operation. The name came from Pana's nickname of the "City of Roses". For more, see this website. [map]

Paris Theatre
Paris, IL
The Paris Theatre opened in 1924 as the Lincoln Theatre. It closed in 1967. In 1971, it reopened as the Paris Theatre. The facade was covered with the metal slipcover in 1960. For more, see this website. [map]

Pickwick Theatre
Park Ridge, IL
The Pickwick Theatre was built from 1928-1929. It was designed in a Streamline Moderne/Mayan style. The theatre is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ was restored in the 1960s. Today, the Pickwick is used for movies and sometimes for live performances. These photos are from 2006.
