Tramway Gas Station
Palm Springs, CA
The Tramway Gas Station was designed by Albert Frey and built from 1963-1965. It features a parabolic roof and was originally an ENCO station. The building was nearly demolished in the late 1990s. In 2004, it reopened as the Palm Springs Visitors Center. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

Union 76 station
Beverly Hills, CA
This Union 76 station was designed by Gin Wong of William Pereira & Associates. The canopy was designed in 1965 for the Los Angeles International Airport. When the airport plans changed, the canopy was installed here for Jack Colker's Union 76 station. Before that, this 76 station had a standard double-canopy design. [map]

Chevron station
Santa Rosa, CA
This Chevron station features an enormous canopy. There was a Standard Oil station at this address in 1953 but I don't know if this canopy was there then. There has been a Chevron here since at least 1956. [map]

Helios House
Los Angeles, CA
Helios House is a contemporary gas station but I'll include it anyway. It was designed by Office dA and built in 2007. A former, normal-looking Thrifty gas station from the mid-1970s was converted into this futuristic stainless-steel structure for BP. The emphasis was placed on creating a gas station with low environmental impact. Much of this station was built with materials from the previous one. Solar panels are installed on the roof and rainwater is collected to water the drought-tolerant landscaping. It has been an ARCO station since 2010. These photos are from 2012. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. [map]
